CROSS RESIDENCY - Reykjavík
01.06 > 25.06.21
Born in 1986, lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland
Nína Óskarsdóttir's sculptures and installations express a deep connection to matter. Handmade and fairly
crude objects, containing the imprint of the artist's gesture, are arranged on simple and uncluttered
furniture. The act of making matters more than technical mastery and the artist constantly plays with the
limits of good and bad taste. She draws on popular culture and beliefs, and associates new technologies
with ancient knowledge and skills. Her installations resemble traces of domestic rituals, highlighting our
complex relationship to objects. The hand emerges as the active element, a bridge between materiality and
immateriality, between artisanal expertise and spirituality, by appealing to the figure of the witch.
This residency is developed in partnership with Nýló (Reyjkavík), the French Embassy of Iceland,
the Alliance Française of Reykjavík and Artistes en Résidence (Clermont-Ferrand).
