For artists of any nationality living in Iceland, and for Icelandic-born artists living abroad.
The residency period for the artist from Iceland in Clermont-Ferrand is scheduled from 19th January to 2nd March 2026.
Nýló (Reykjavík, Iceland) and Artistes en résidence (Clermont-Ferrand, France) offer a six-week residency in France to one artist of Icelandic nationality or living and working in Iceland.
The program is supported by the French Embassy in Iceland and the Alliance Française de Reykjavík and Ardian.
Created in 2011 in Clermont-Ferrand, Artistes en résidence (A·R) is a non-profit organization which supports contemporary creation by organizing residencies for artists and researchers in the field of contemporary art. A·R supports international mobility of artists and the circulation of ideas and skills through the development of a vast network of local, national and international partners.
At A·R, residencies are considered as a time entirely dedicated to research and experimentation with no obligation to produce. The goal is to provide artists with the necessary time for qualitative and in-depth research, to promote a true immersion in the residency context, and to allow for trial and error as well as critical questioning necessary for the development of artistic practices.
A·R’s team offers mentorship to artists and provides contacts of various art professionals, researchers, artisans or any other person who can contribute to the development of their practice.
The Living Art Museum or Nýló, was founded in 1978 by a group of artists and is therefore one of the oldest museums and exhibition spaces in Europe under the supervision of artists. The Living Art Museum has been one of the main venues for contemporary art in Iceland and has a unique collection of works by Icelandic and international artists from the 1960s to the present day.
Please note :
A·R strives to provide pleasant and suited working conditions for all.
With this in mind, A·R is committed to the fight against sexual and gender-based violence and harassment, as well as any discriminatory comments or behavior.
Outrages, assaults and harassment are offences defined and punishable by law. Consequently, any behavior qualifying as or resembling violence, whether inside or outside A·R premises, will not be tolerated and may be followed by sanctions ranging from a warning to exclusion from the residency program. If necessary, alternative housing solutions or adjustments to residence times may be considered.
Resident artists have the possibility to bring their partner and/or family to stay with them at the residency. Please contact the team for more detailed terms and conditions.
The apartment, located on the third floor of a building without an elevator, is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Appropriate solutions can be found on a case-by-case basis. Those concerned are invited to contact A·R to discuss things together.
The portfolios can be in French, Icelandic or English. The note of intent however needs to be written in English.
Artists can apply for several ongoing open calls by Artistes en résidence.
The deadline for applications is 31st of August, 2025, 23h59 Icelandic time.
The results will be communicated end of September 2025.
